"A common and well-articulated vision of 21st century learning needs to be shared among educators, government officials, the business community, parents, and students. This common vision helps the key stakeholders sustain the long-term committment it takes to transform the education system over time." Trilling and Fadel, p. 122.

How will we know that this project will prepare our students with the knowledge and skills to be contributing members of a 21st Century Global Society?

In order to determine the effectiveness of our grant, we will partner with a independent evaluator, Sun Associates.
Sun Associates has extensive experience in helping to determine the level of success of grant funded projects in a variety of disciplines. They are currently partnered with the Vermont Department of Education http://www.vtcite.org/node/3016 on a project centering on the creation of 21st century classrooms.
They have previously successfully partnered with the Reading Public Schools on our execution of a Teaching American History grant, Encounters and Exchanges in American History and are currently working on our History Connected TAH grant.

Throughout the time period of the grant, Sun Associates will work closely with the staff of the Killam School to observe lessons, classrooms, and curriculum changes. They will collect qualititative and quantitative data from teachers, students and parents. A grant committee will be formed within the building and will have quarterly update meetings with Sun Associates. The committee will be headed by our newly funded full time Assistant Principal position. Evaluation instruments will be developed and may include surveys, students projects, lesson plans, observations, etc. Student self-assessment after completing various projects and assignments will also be an essential part of our data collection.

We will also be keeping this wiki up as a way to communicate with other schools around the world who may be interested in restructuring their schools to better motivate their students or would like to share with us ideas that they've used at their schools.
